Cambodia Wins Bronze in GITC for Youth with Disabilities 2022

SEOUL: A Cambodian youth taking part in the Global Information Technology Competition for Youth with Disabilities in Seoul, South Korea has won a bronze medal in the finals.

Sim Seang Hai, 16, a ninth-grade student at Hun Sen Takhmao High School, competed with contestants from 16 different countries from August 2022 until the finals on Wednesday, 16 November.

Sim Seang Hai won a bronze medal in the eTool_Excel Challenge final.

The final round consisted of six competitions: eTool (Powerpoint), eTool (Excel), eLifeMap, eContents, eCreative_Smart Car and eCreative_IoT. Each of the categories had three top rankings, Best (1st), Excellent (2nd) and Good (3rd).

In the eTool (Powerpoint), eTool (Excel) and eLifeMap categories, there were four separate sets of winners among four categories of disability (physical disability, intellectual disability, deaf or hard of hearing, and visually impaired).

The eContents, eCreative_Smart Car and eCreative_IoT competitions, on the other hand, only had one set of first, second and third place winners each.

The highest award for the competition went to Thailand’s Varinporn Thongjamnong. There were also two other Special Awards and 50 medals given out in total. The competition was held both offline for participants in the Republic of Korea, and online for youth residing in other countries. 1,800 young people from 16 different countries participated in GITC 2022, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

The Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC) is a project to strengthen the ICT capacity of young people with disabilities, lay the foundation for social progress, and raise awareness of digital accessibility for youth with disabilities.

In 2023, the will be held in the United Arab Emirates and will be developed into a more sustainable competition, strengthening the credibility of the internationally renowned competition and the independence of the participating countries.
